I’m cracking up at today’s episode because i’m NOT an expert in this area, but I might be just a couple steps ahead of you and sometimes it’s more helpful for someone to share what they’re going through at the beginning and middle of their journey than at the end when they’re in a completely different place!

We are talking today about how to stop running in circles, and how to get back on track with where you want to go/what you want to accomplish! Sometimes we look up and wonder why we are doing the things we do everyday, and how they’re going to get us where we want to go!

First, I’m going to Vail, Colorado this weekend and cannot wait! I decided to disconnect for the weekend, maybe for the first time ever?! I just finished a book called The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer and it was such a good reminder for me to inspect how I’m spending my time and look closely at my priorities. A lot of us are “go go go” and we are exhausted but don’t know another way to live!

After finishing that book, I knew I needed to take a few days off of social media and away from my phone to really relax and enjoy a slower pace on vacation. We NEVER unplug, but it’s so necessary to reset.

Sometimes I get an idea in my head and then I start executing it without thinking through the implications it will have on my time, stress level, workload, and everything else.

For example, this weekend, I started thinking about hiking a 14er (mountain over 14,000 feet elevation) and then all of a sudden, I was spending all of my time research mountains, hikes, and trying to figure out how I could fit the rest of my vacation activities in my schedule around my big 14er hike! HOLD ON. I don’t even CARE about 14ers…I was just trying to get a fun hike in and enjoy some nature time in Colorado! I had to get off the planning frenzy hamster wheel that I was on, and remember that the point of this trip was to RELAX!

Are you looking around right now and realizing that you’re running in circles chasing something that you don’t even care about? Or maybe chasing something that society has told you is important, but you don’t really care about it?

Maybe it’s that you have to be a PERFECT student or wife or post on Instagram every single day? Do Tiktok? Wear a different outfit everyday? There are so many expectations that we accept from society without questioning.

So, if you do notice that you’re chasing something in your life that doesn’t quite make sense for you, how do you get off the hamster wheel?

Make a choice, a conscious decision, to stop.

I know that seems too easy! So, for practical steps, here are a few things that will help you along the way.

What’s got you on the hamster wheel? Maybe it’s creating a certain type of content, or sending pitches to brands.

First, take some time away or alone.

It doesn’t have to be long, but spend a little time alone and think about why you wanted to pursue that idea in the first place. Come back to your why!

Next, slow down!

We are all trying to get to the next level so fast, but what’s the point if we are so stressed out the whole time that we can’t enjoy the journey/process of getting there!

Break down your goal into teeny tiny steps. What are the action steps that are realistic for your life that won’t overload you? Think about how to break your ideas down into reasonable steps that will work for your life and allow you to enjoy the growth process!

Reminder, I still struggle with this and get caught up in the hustle, but really wanted to share and encourage you to slow down, take time to regroup, and pursue your goals in a way that is sustainable and enjoyable!
